What to check when buying a kitten
Kittens are bought in Moldova faster and more emotionally than puppies: the decision is often made in a single evening, and almost nobody is in the habit of checking papers. Yet pedigree cats carry the most expensive hereditary problems — hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in Maine Coons and British Shorthairs, polycystic kidney disease in Persians and Exotics, joint problems in Scottish Folds when the pair is matched incorrectly.
That is why our listings show the parents' test results, not just photos. A kitten from a tested pair costs 1,500–3,000 MDL more — and this is the one part of the price worth never saving on: a single cardiac scan with a cardiologist in Chisinau costs more than the difference.
Price range: 2,500–5,000 MDL for a kitten without papers from a house cat, 5,000–10,000 MDL for a kitten from a cattery with a registration, and 10,000–19,000 MDL for rare colours and breeding class. A kitten goes home no earlier than three months — after the second vaccination, not “at two months but cheaper”.
